Discussion with ONDŘEJ KUNDRA and the performance PUTIN IS SKIING

Provocative theatre

The introduction of the game Putin skis at the festival In the middle, after a long break from the covid, was accompanied by sudden changes. Instead of a soaked park on Moravské náměstí, we set up our military tent directly under the falcon’s wings in the Sokol Brno I entrance hall, to whom we express our admiration for their willingness and helpfulness. We are also grateful to BURANTEATR for providing the premises of the Black Box Cafe, which was filled after the performance by an activated audience determined to penetrate the practices of the Russian secret services and the investigative methods of their detection until late at night. We also valued the current political scene, which is very shabby, balancing freedom and non-freedom. We thank Respekt editor Ondřej Kundr for his visit, inspiring debate and his persistent work to strengthen freedom and democracy.

During the event, thanks to the Brno branch of Amnesty International CR, it was possible to sign petition sheets in support of the persecuted representatives of the Belarusian opposition Maryja Kalesnikavova and the Belarusian opposition journalist Raman Pratasevich.

And to top it off, the show was a premiere for David Tchelidz.

“Even though Putin’s theatrical performance has been about the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, she has only seen it for years. It was an extremely powerful experience. The performance is minimalist, starring three actors and taking place through Politkovská’s diary entries. For a long time now, I have not been so struck by the punch, clarity and rawness of the images of contemporary Russia as in this game. ”
