For a long time,

I thought that theater is when you take music, space, text, costumes, props, an actor, and their peculiar movements, and everything is done a bit wrong because there’s a lot of it.

First

I only became interested in the theater when I saw the performance Piškardendulá (Věra Říčařová and František Vítek) and then Bethlehem (Eva Tálská/Studio Dům). They created a perfectly unique world that I enjoyed getting lost in. Thanks to my then-girlfriend, I found myself at Studio Dům and observed how such a cohesive world is created. I still had plans to finish studying mathematics and become a teacher – I had no idea that in the meantime, I was learning how to create good theater. In Studio, I met Pavla, with whom I enjoyed talking about theater, art, and life. I never would have thought back then that I would spend my life creating our own theater with her.

The magic

of puppets became clear to me when Eva Tálská handed me the marionette of Tonda Maloně. To my own surprise, I, previously a shy introvert, started addressing Eva informally and making jokes. When I timidly returned the puppet, Mrs. Tálská had a peculiar, playful smile.

Once

someone asked me what I enjoy most in the theater – and I said backing up a car with a trailer. And there is something about it. I really enjoy that with our way of life I need to weld sometimes; find the right voice for the character; compile an account balance; make a boot; write something in html; play some music and reverse the car with the trailer!

You can find the story of how Pavla and I started our own theater in the  Theatre Diary.
